SIGPLAN CARES is a new SIGPLAN resource consisting of well-known and respected people in the programming languages community who are approachable and willing to listen to and help people who experience discrimination and harassment at our events; the committee members can be a sounding board for these people and can provide advice on the steps necessary to have the matter further investigated by ACM. For the matter to be reported, the person experiencing the incident must still themselves send the complaint to ACM where it will be handled according to ACM’s policy.
If you have questions about CARES generally, please contact us in the #cares channel on slack at PLDI 2020. We will also advertise links to our zoom calls in the #cares channel — please join us there for a conversation too. For private conversations, you may contact us via slack direct message. You may also email any individual CARES member at any time to ask to discuss an issue, be it during PLDI or at another time of the year. Please find member contact information at the SIGPLAN CARES website. We are here for you and happy to chat. Our emails are on the web page.
